The Huntington Beach Pier was originally built back in 1903 and was constructed completely of wood. After a bad storm wrecked a large portion of the pier in 1912, it was reconstructed out of concrete. At the time, it was the only concrete pier in the United States. During World War 2, the U.S. Navy occupied use of the pier by installing a submarine look out post and a machine gun at the end of the pier.
