It was an early evening one Friday night and I was cruising Pacific Coast Highway looking for a particular beach that is notorious for being very well hidden. A lot of the beaches in Laguna are well hidden but this one was perhaps the most difficult for me to find. It had been days since we had a decent sunset and this evening was turning out to be quite beautiful. With the sun setting earlier in the evening around this time of year, the pressure was on to be sure I didn’t miss it.
Making my way deep into Laguna Beach, I finally found Victoria Street but parking was non-existent and the entry way to the beach was no where to be found. I glanced up at the sky and saw such beautiful cloud formations. I knew I didn’t have any time to waste. I quickly got back up onto Pacific Coast Highway, parked the car, and proceeded to walk a couple of blocks searching everywhere for the entry way. About five houses ahead of me I finally spotted a staircase that looked like it might have been what I was looking for. Sure enough, as I got closer I realized that this stair case had been cleverly disguised as an entry way to someone’s back yard. I had made it just in time.
I took a moment to look around and breathe in the salty sea air. The blue sky was transitioning to a beautiful golden glow with the sun appearing to be inches from the horizon. The clouds swirled around overhead with the last light of the day reflecting against their back side. I firmly planted my tripod into the sand and realized that I couldn’t have found a more perfect place to be.
